I know at least two people who have gone to Mexico solely for Pujol. I was very excited to have my own experience. It was during the pandemic, so everything was outside with their outdoor furniture. This made for an awkward eating experience because the tables were so low as most outdoor coffee tables are. I was willing to overlook this because we did go during the pandemic. The service on the other hand was impeccable. However, the food did not live up to the hype.

We started out with the amuse-bouche which was a fantastic tart.

Next we had a Pujol signature. Baby corn dipped in a chipotle sauce. This was definitely the best course of the lunch. The flavors were sublime.

The following course included ceviche tacos. It was incredibly difficult to eat because they gave you these corn tortillas with almost a soup like ceviche. It was very messy. I preferred to eat this dish with a spoon, but the waiter looked horrified and asked if I wanted more tortillas to which I reluctantly agreed to.

After that was a fish-based dish covered in flowers. The flowers were actually quite sweet, but the overall dish fell flat for me

Following the fish dish we were served an eggplant dish. It was made with many dark spices on top and a thick cream. It honestly looked like motor oil. I thought it was fine, but I definitely was not getting an out-of-this world tasting experience.

Next came the main course which was octopus. To be fair, I do not like octopus, but I’m sure if someone did, this would be a good dish for them. I on the other hand was not impressed.

Next up came two different kinds of mole. I was looking forward to the mole as it is so quintessentially Mexican. The server gave a long story about how long one of them took to make. We ate them with corn tortillas. I was again disappointed by the taste.

We had a pallet cleanser which was interesting

Finally the dessert came, and fell so flat for me that I gave it to my fiancé to finish.

They brought out churros with the check, which I also had my fiancé eat.

Then they brought the bill and I thought to myself: I would have felt like I missed out if I did not go here, but I will never come again unless the prices are lowered to like $65/person v. the $125/person + tip that we actually paid. Mind you we did not order any drinks. That was just food. What I paid for a meal like that was far too expensive.
