For my 30th birthday I decided to go to Bacalar Mexico. There was this cool looking resort that I thought seemed really relaxing. I thought it would be a great retreat for my 30th. We stayed at Our Habitas in Bacalar and as interesting as it looked it also ngl gave off midsomar cult vibes. Luckily we were ok and nothing bad happened.

We flew from Atlanta to Tulum airport which was a beautiful airport that recently opened. From there we got a rental car and drove the 2.5 hours to our resort. Right now Bacalar feels very not touristy, but there is a railway that will soon connect Cancun to Tulum to Bacalar and I have a feeling the quiet town will soon flood with tourists.

We arrived at our resort and were soon offered a hibiscus flavored welcome drink, and were shown our room. It was a spacious luxury tent with a humongous bed. There was also a nice deck where we were excited to lay out. One of the reasons I chose this place was because it included activities like kayaking, Pilates, stand-up paddleboarding and watercolor painting. Breakfast was also included which was a nice addition. However, we learned on day one to make sure we did not order anything with honey because there would be swarms of honeybees diving into the honey.

We also saw that for an extra cost we could have a private sailboat tour which we were interested in, but were able to get a much better deal by going into the town (it was half the price of the hotel) 175 dollars for 3hours!

We spent most of our days lounging on the private dock (there are no beaches on the lagoon, just docks) and we were captivated by the many shades of blue and green from the lagoon. I took advantage of all the free activities and Jack and I spent a small amount of time in the town. Our last day we did “Los Rapidos” which was a lazy river about 400m long. I heard the life jackets were gross and smelly, but I wish I had taken one because it was a bit tough to tread water for me.

Though it was a short trip to Bacalar, I’m glad we had the opportunity to go and relax. Jack and I usually take very active vacations with lots of hiking or city exploring, but I was happy to lounge and rest as I grow my little one inside me (who is now the size a pea!)
