Most people know Orlando for two things: Disney and Universal. I do not have any sentimental attachment to these parks, and therefore avoid the two attractions, embracing my opposition to price gouging, overcrowding, and long wait times. Instead we went to Orlando and went to two lesser known attractions.
We first went to the chocolate kingdom for a tour, which was more geared towards children, but had great chocolate. The next day our big event was going to Gatorland. I’ll be honest I do have a childhood attachment to Gatorland, and there are very cute pictures of my brother and me when we were younger holding gators, and another cute picture of us in high school with the same pose.
I went with my fiance this time and we had a great time looking at all the different animals in Gatorland. They have alligators, crocodiles, turtles, goats, flamingos, and many more animals. They also have events and shows with the gators and other animals. I remember in highschool there was a picture of me sitting on a gator.
The special thing about Gatorland is the rare collection of white gators. One is albino with red eyes and the other three are leusitic with beautiful blue eyes and slight pigmentation on their mouths and tails. If left in the wild, these gators do not survive long, as they lack the camouflage of pigmentation to protect them, and they are sensitive to sunlight. Though not unique to Orlando we did enjoy a lovely anniversary dinner at Morton’s steakhouse. We usually get their happy hour special which is honestly an incredible deal. Overall if you are looking for a cool thing to do in Orlando, I suggest Gatorland over Disneyland.
